Transboundary support through GIZ
Project Objectives
The project objectives are to ensure that: basin-level management reflects local government and community priorities; SADC members actively participate in achieving the objectives of the Regional Strategic Action Plan (RSAP) and Regional Strategic Water Infrastructure Development Project (RSWIDP); and SADC and GIZ plans are aligned behind the priorities of the member states.
Project Description
The aim of the programme is to improve the management of international water resources in SADC by increasing the political awareness of management of resources at the river basin level.
Project Components
The programme is designed to support the following components:
- Strengthening of SADC Water Division, RBOs and Water Utilities
- RBO Exchange Programme
- Development of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Plans
- Training in IWRM
- Information Management
- Policy harmonisation
The international partner organisation are BMZ – Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and AusAID – Australian Agency for International Development. The regional implementing agency is the SADC Water Division.
The project duration is from 2008 – 2011.
