Climate Resilient Water Resources Investment Strategy & Plan and Lesotho-Botswana Water Transfer (L-BWT) Project

With the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and other Partners, from January 2017 to June 2020, ORASECOM is developing its climate resilient water resources investment strategy & plan, as well as undertaking a pre-feasibility study for the Lesotho-Botswana water transfer and a feasibility study for the proposed dam site on the Makhaleng River in Lesotho.

In January 2017, an Agreement was signed between ORASECOM and the African Development Bank (AfDB). For more information click here.

With effect from the 1st of August 2018, the WRP Pty Limited and its Associates started providing consulting services to the already funded components of the Project. Consultancy Package One Contract Award

With effect from the 1st of August 2018, the WRP (Pty) Limited and its Associates were awarded a contract to develop a climate resilient water resources investment strategy & plan for the Orange-Senqu River Basin, as well as undertake a pre-feasibility study for the Lesotho-Botswana Water Transfer and a feasibility study for the proposed dam site on the Makhaleg River in Lesotho.

Fundraising for the Lesotho-Botswana Water Transfer Project

The L-BWT scheme will supply water to Botswana, Lesotho and South Africa from the Makhaleng Dam – part of the Lesotho Lowlands Water Supply Scheme – through a 700 km water conveyance pipeline from Lesotho, through South Africa, to Botswana.

INVESTMENT REQUEST

<€3.42 million grant funding for outstanding feasibility studies related to the dam and conveyancing pipeline.

Fundraising drive is taking place at the 2018 Stockholm World Water Week, from 26-31 August 2018, with the support of the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Development Facility (CRIDF), the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and the Global Water Partnership – Southern Africa (GWP-SA).
